You feel stagnant in your career and you want to advance or change careers. But it might take learning a new job skill.

If you feel like doing something like taking a course to learn SEO online, then you should go ahead and sign up. But when is the best time to do that? It’s not as tricky as it seems.

When You Have A Lot of Free Time

In 2020, many people found themselves locked inside thanks to a global pandemic. That would have been an excellent time to spend several hours or more a day poring over job courses. Then when the lockdown was lifted, they could confidently tell prospective employers what they did.

If there is an extended time like that again, then people should view that as an opportunity presenting itself. If it helps them get a great new job, then it will have been time well spent. It’s all about maximizing one’s schedule.

On Your Commute

Let’s say you have a long commute on a train or a bus. Rather than sitting off and staring into space or playing one of those addictive mobile games, you might download an app that teaches you a new skill or just go to a website that teaches it. That will be a much more productive use of your time.

Take Weekend Classes

Yes, you may usually like to have the weekends off to rest and rewind after a long week of work. It may be worth the short-term sacrifice though, to take some classes during that time to learn a new skill. After you do that, you can rest and relax on the weekends when you start your new job or new role at work, satisfied that you went for the big picture rather than short term.

Look Into Bootcamps

Bootcamps, which are when you learn a lot of things in a short amount of time, can be an excellent thing to use to learn a new skill. They may even be able to place you in a new job - but that is something that you need to research first beforehand. You can get some good individual attention with a bootcamp and possibly even gain a mentor if you and your instructor mesh.

It may seem like a time commitment … and it is. But if you want to advance in your career or find something else, it’s worth it to forgo watching those streaming shows for a bit and to study. Then you can put that knowledge to practical use.

The thing about living in these times is that there are many more options available for people to further their education than even twenty years ago. Technology can improve people’s lives in so many different ways, and if you take advantage of one of the things listed above, then you can possibly learn a brand new skill in a very short amount of time. It is well worth looking into and can set you on a very different path than you ever envisioned.
