Google in Hot Water With European Union

The European Union is currently in conflict with Google over an apparent exploitation of their Android mobile operating system. Alphabet Inc. is pressed with a $5 billion antitrust fine for inherently pressuring smartphone manufacturers to pre-install Google’s Chrome and Search applications onto the devices. This action ultimately finds Alphabet culpable of forcefully endorsing their own services, which isn’t the only time the company has infringed on certain restrictions. Alphabet was recently fined $2.7 billion for wrongfully promoting its shopping services in the industry. In response to EU Commissioner Margrethe Vestager’s statements regarding Google’s seemingly unfair actions to further its dominance, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai spoke out against these accusations by stating how the commission is not necessarily evaluating the situation in its entirety. Pichai addressed how Android’s competition with Apple’s iOS devices is being overlooked and how Android has helped the smartphone industry advance and expand with respectable freedom.
