It is with immense sorrow that we at Rebellion Research announce the passing of our esteemed colleague and board member, Lars Tyge Nielsen. A luminary in the fields of finance and mathematics, Lars's contributions to our institution were profound and left a lasting impact.

Joining the Columbia University Department of Mathematics in 2012 as the Director of the Mathematics of Finance MA Program, Lars was renowned for his dedication to education and his relentless pursuit of academic and professional excellence. His efforts significantly enhanced the program's stature, attracting leading practitioners and continuously refining its curriculum to stay abreast of the dynamic world of mathematical finance.

Beyond his academic roles, Lars’s career was distinguished by his tenure as a Chaired Professor of International Banking and Finance at INSEAD and vital positions at prestigious institutions such as Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley.

His broad experience and expertise enriched our board's strategic discussions, driving innovative approaches and thoughtful insights.

Lars was beloved for his kindness, his unwavering positivity, and his respectful interaction with everyone he met. His passions included reading about world history and visiting his native Denmark, enriching his perspective and grounding his global outlook.

Rebellion Research deeply values the time Lars dedicated to our board and the profound mentorship he provided. His scholarly works, including his influential books on derivative securities and financial economics, will continue to guide and inspire.
